LILY FESTIVAL ON IE ISLAND
Adventure Wednesday: Last week we explored Ie island which is just a 30 min ferry ride from the main island of Okinawa. We saw the Lily festival, and then visited the hibiscus gardens and greenhouses. We fell in love with the many beautiful varieties of hibiscus (they cultivate about 1000 different types here). Afterwards we hiked to the top of Mt Gusuku where we got a beautiful panoramic view of the island. We then explored Nya-tiya cave, also called the cave of 1000 people since over 1000 people used it as an air raid shelter during WW2. From the cave we took a nice walk back along the beach to the port. We saw fish, shells, crabs, and a sea star as we walked back on squishy, mossy seaweed.
