We had a wonderful time visiting Bryan and Afton at their beach house in Outer Banks, NC.
DUCK DONUTS
Since we were staying in Duck, we had to get some fresh Duck donuts from the original shop. They were SO good!
LOST COLONY OF ROANOKE
Double date with Bryan and Afton to see "The Lost Colony" play at Roanoke.
CURRITUCK LIGHTHOUSE
We visited Currituck lighthouse and Bryan and Jared got to climb to the top.
The view from the top!
THE BEACH
The beach was absolutely perfect.
The water was cool enough to be refreshing, but comfortable to swim in without a wet suit.
Even Brooklyn was brave and tried the ocean with some help from Uncle Bryan and her cousins.
The girls had fun collecting shells and building sand castles with their cousins.
Finding washed up sea creatures along the shore.
KITTY HAWK AND THE WRIGHT BROTHERS
Posing with the statues is awesome.Family picture
Paper, rock, scissors
Fist bump explosion
Dancing
Ready for take off
Monument for first flight
Dancing in the hangar
The kids had fun running the markers for the first flights.
Wilbur and Orville
BODIE LIGHTHOUSE
I got to climb with my kids to the top!
GHOST CRABS

Brooklyn's rendition of the Bodie lighthouse.
CAPE HATTERAS LIGHTHOUSE
Made a quick trip to see another iconic lighthouse. This one isn't open for climbing, but is still so pretty.
At night all the ghost crabs crawl on the beach. They scurried away as we shined our lights on them.

Aunt Afton was brave and picked up one for the kids to touch.

Holding a crab. This one wasn't doing too well so he was too weak to pinch me.

Ghost crabs usually hide in their holes during the day, but this one came out to say hi.
WILD HORSES
We got to take a ride in the back of a pick up to see wild horses for the first time.
Some were in people's yards.

Along the sides of roads
In forested areas
Hanging out on street corners
Walking down the road

We had a nice ferry ride to Ocracoke island.
The Oracoke lighthouse seemed mini compared to the 3 taller ones that we'd seen, but it was super cute.
The stairs
This was our last time together before heading home, so we took one last picture with cousins (Dantzel fell asleep on the ferry ride over).
GRAVEYARD OF THE ATLANTIC MUSEUM
It was super interesting to learn about the maritime history of the Outer Banks. It was the location of numerous shipwrecks and played a major role in both world wars.

The kids had fun doing an ocean craft with their cousins.
THE FERRY HOME
Sitting up top was fun

We entered the ferry and felt like we had gone back in time to the 1970s. The kids loved the retro look.
Our vacation was wonderful, but the drive home ended up being extra long due to bad cell reception and strange directions from gas station owners and my phone. We finally got home at 2:00 am. After this experience I finally decided to update my very dated phone that kept giving us trouble. I am now a happy iPhone user.
